Talk:Key:motorcycle:parking
You are using a ValueDescription template for a key description.
The image you are using in the template (File:Motorcycle parking.png) would indicate more the 'amenity=motorcycle_parking' you are differentiating from in this proposal here. --Polarbear w (talk) 20:17, 8 April 2018 (UTC)
That's right, what do you think of this one instead ? http://forum.lc8.info//files/attachments/parkplatz_442.jpg Unfortunately the parking sign is not visible. I'll see whether I find a better one (or take a new one). user:rtfm Rtfm (talk) 08:27, 15 April 2018 (UTC)
What is the point of this key?
Why not tag just parking itself? It seems like a pointless data duplication, if somebody wants the checking for nearby parkings should be quite easy Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 11:00, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
It's similar to outdoor_seating or beer_garden,
whether this is generally offered by the amenity / accomodation.
If one likes to know the exact location or size, he/she needs to check the area itself.
Those may certainly also be questioned
outdoor_seating
beer_garden
In case they offer a Garage for motorcycles, how could this be tagged ? Sometimes it is a building=barn used as a motorcycle parking. Covered areas aren't always marked (by lines on the ground), so how to define the area ? A separate node could make sense to know where the parking is (if it belongs to a building), but I think the mapper should decide whether it makes sense in the individual case. user:rtfm Rtfm (talk) 08:27, 15 April 2018 (UTC)
Bad tagging caused by this
I did some research into the usage of this tag and in ever instance I could find it was being used wrongly as an added tag to somewhere. When the specific motorcycle parking area should have been tagged separately as its own object. Which goes against the one element one OSM object rule. Maybe there are legitimate instances where a tag like this might go on an object where the physical object it describes can't be mapped separately, but its not clear when that is from the article and definitely not being tagged that way. Even the examples in the article prove it. For instance the article says this can be applied to a garage. So can amenity=motorcycle_parking though. All the examples in the pictures can and should be mapped as their own objects with amenity=motorcycle_parking. This tag just seems redundant and like it encourages bad tagging. It's being added to large campgrounds and hotel areas when the actual parking should be mapped instead. What is an actual, legitimate, unique use of this tag instead of amenity=motorcycle_parking? I don't think there is one. --Adamant1 (talk) 06:38, 18 December 2019 (UTC)
Article move or deletion
I suggest this article either be moved to RTFM's user space, an actual proposal article (where it's problems can discussed as such), or just deleted. As the problems brought up by me and other users about the tag haven't been dealt with and it hasn't been adopted in the two years the article has existed anyway. --Adamant1 (talk) 10:38, 14 March 2020 (UTC)
