I see this as a duplicate of obstacle=vegetation. I like, that it can be applied to something not in highway key. Still, I do not see the surplus value of this on something not disused of abandoned. Furthermore I am aghast by the number of values this can take, but this is only my private opinion. --Hungerburg (talk) 22:35, 1 August 2024 (UTC)

Recently I used this tag - on an abandoned:highway=track - it makes sense, as it immediately conveys, what for the track got tagged abandoned. Key obstacle cannot do that. --Hungerburg (talk) 22:52, 13 August 2024 (UTC)

Unstable measure

The degree of owergrownness may not be stable, since it (may) depend on both seasons and periodic maintenance, or even the species [lifecycle] of the vegetation. It seems very hard to interpret this tagging on a longer period, like OSM data usually applied. (Partially it also applies to the more popular obstacle=*, since vegetation is often seasonal but at least that key does not try to make [unreliable] predictions for the near or far future.) --grin 08:30, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
