tracktype grade

@APneunzehn74: I wonder if changing tracktype = grade3 to grade1 is correct. As I understand it, a way with longitudinal tracks and an inhomogeneous total area should be mapped with grade3. surface:middle is not that common. This means that in most cases only tracktype is interpreted. And if tracktype=grade1 is entered, almost everyone will probably assume that the path is homogeneous, paved and easily accessible for a variety of means of transport. I also see the problem that asphalt strips have a very good load-bearing capacity. But for the reason mentioned above, I don't think grade1 is the better solution here, as it creates a different problem. Do you have any sources that would show that grade1 would be more correct here than grade3? --Chris2map (talk) 23:17, 30 November 2024 (UTC)

Additional see "Betonspurwege" in the German tracktype Wiki. I think the experience for drivers and pedestrians on these tracks is closer to grade1 than grade3, they only have to pay more attention to keep the track and the load-bearing capacity depends mainly on the track substructure and not so much on the surface. All in all, I would say it's more grade1 than grade3.--Wolfgang8 (talk) 09:45, 1 December 2024 (UTC)

Hello @Chris2map ,tracktype indicates the maintenance status of a road, a lane with surface=concrete:lanes or in this case surface=asphalt:lanes was built like this. In my opinion, a grade3 road was a grade2 road when new, which "got worse" until it could become a grade3 road without maintenance. As a source and confirmation: in the German wiki for tracktype, surface=concrete:lanes are also grade1. The fact that mcliquid gave this comment a thumbs up confirmed my opinion. There was already a discussion on the topic here. grade1_ruts was suggested at the time, but is practically not used. —Preceding unsigned comment added by APneunzehn74 (talkcontribs) 14:33, 1 December 2024

Thanks for your reactions! After reading the forum discussion I recognize that this is quiet an old and long lasting topic. I haven't decided yet which explanation and definition I agree with more. But I think I understand those reasons for assigning grade1, too. --Chris2map (talk) 17:31, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
Against this background of the definition of tracktype, the first sentence on the tracktype=* page is very misleading: "...how well-maintained..." / also on German page even more "...der Unterhaltungszustand..."! --Chris2map (talk) 19:42, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
