Map Features usefulness, usability and maintainability
I’ve started a mailing list discussion about this page and what we are trying to acheive.--Andrew (talk) 09:19, 29 May 2016 (UTC)
- As a wiki editor and heavy mapper I don't use this page. It takes ages to render and displays only a selection (e.g. club=* is missing). I usually use search to find a feature.--Jojo4u (talk) 23:18, 30 May 2016 (UTC)
Project page tag lists
I create a project page to discuss rolling out Taglists, see Taginfo/Taglists/Wiki_project. We are looking for people to help! Math1985 (talk) 16:00, 4 December 2016 (UTC)
Living history museums
How should I tag individual buildings in a museum=living_history? These places have recreations of 19th Century bakeries and post offices, but I assume I shouldn't tag them as bakeries and post offices because the amount of bread baked and letters mailed at them is negligible. Should I tag each building as tourism=museum, or should that tag be reserved for the entire site as a whole? --Arctic.gnome (talk) 19:54, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
- I would tag the entire site as tourism=museum. The buildings themselves should be tagged as building=*, of course, but I'm not sure how to add the other information for each building. Do the buildings have actual names, perhaps? --Tordanik 17:09, 9 December 2018 (UTC)
Page takes to much time to load it.
The topic was mentioned on Talk:Wiki and is on the list Category: Pages with too many expensive parser function calls.
I've tried to shorten the loading time and size of the Map Features page by creating a list of all of the Map feature pages, adding, by the way, missing pages and internationalizing them. It took me a long time, but it was probably worth it. --Władysław Komorek (talk) 19:42, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
- The goal of Map Features is to be a manually-curated overview of the most established tags on a single page. I would be happy about ideas for making it load faster without significant changes in content or structure. But turning it into a list of links defeats its purpose as a single-page overview.
- Also, quite a few of the templates that you newly added were about extremely rare tags (Template:Map Features:Cuisine (type of dessert), to mention one example) or of rather poor quality. IMO, they weren't really missing, but in some cases intentionally omitted. --Tordanik 22:30, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
- You can not decide personally, on behalf of everyone, what is needed and what is not for the community. So, ask others beforehand what they think about it and let others comment before you start the edit war using reverts. Also read previous threads. --Władysław Komorek (talk) 07:45, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
- I agree with Tordanik. The new page is awful and missing the original point to gather the most useful tags in one place. Please revert to the original. Chrabroš (talk) 17:58, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
- I also agree with Tordanik - page should be reverted. And using your own words: You cannot decide on your own to put rarely used tags on the main reference page. --Nop (talk) 19:28, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
- OK. I reverted it and created the new Map Features2 with a list of all of the Map feature pages. --Władysław Komorek (talk) 13:06, 10 March 2019 (UTC)
