Hello, I'd be interested to talk to anyone who is mapping or has an interest in mapping in Morocco. --Nick 10:54, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Tagging standard for main roads

Hi. I think it would be helpful if we can now agree a standard for tagging the main roads. Otherwise, we are going to waste time and annoy each other.

As I understand it, the main roads fall into 4 classifications, and are numbered accordingly:

  • A - Autoroutes.
  • N - Routes Nationales.
  • R - Routes Régionales.
  • P - Routes Provinciales.

I propose that the tagging standard should be:

  • A - highway=motorway
  • N - highway=trunk
  • R - highway=primary
  • P - highway=secondary

This leaves highway=tertiary for roads which have no designation, but which are significant local routes.

Smaller roads can be tagged highway=unclassified/residential/service and so on, depending on individual judgment.

Does anyone have any problem with this? If there is no reaction, I will update the Project page. --Martin 23 October 2009

The problem is that highway=trunk http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Trunk is used for divided ways. I rather propose

  • A - highway=motorway/trunk
  • N - highway=primary
  • R - highway=secondary
  • P - highway=tertiary

and the others small roads as highway=unclassified

highway=trunk is used for divided ways in some countries, but not in others. If we use 2 different tags for A-roads, we lose the opportunity of using highway=tertiary for important local roads which have no official designation. That would be a pity because so many of the roads will have to be tagged as unclassified.--Mce 18:05, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Medinas

Any ideas on how to tag these little "streets" in Medinas? I started tagging them as highway=pedestrian in Casablanca and Marrakesh --MrTweek 21:38, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Good to see more detail being added. In Marrakech I have tended to reserve highway=pedestrian for roads where vehicles are actually prohibited, plus the covered souks where you might just get an occasional motor scooter but it probably shouldn't be there. Most of the other streets are then highway=residential or highway=unclassified, leaving highway=service for little dead-end alleys and highway=footway for those that are too narrow for anything except perhaps a bicycle or a hand cart. It is surprising how many tiny little roads are genuinely for cars and have a No Entry sign (usually ignored) at one end to prove it.--Martin 08:40, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

French Maroc page translation?

Do you think this page should be translated in to French to attract more local contributors? There are different approaches. WikiProject Germany page is in German. WikiProject France page offers an english translation of the FR:WikiProject France french portal page (this requires more maintenance) -- Harry Wood (talk) 13:52, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

yes, it will be more then welcome, french is the second foreign language in morocco.User:Ali1964

JOSM Arabic translation

Arabic is currently only #6 on our list of potential future JOSM translations despite the large number of countries speaking it. 2000 core strings must be translated for a new language to be added. We'd love to see the Morrocan community help to complete the translation so we could add this new language to JOSM. See JOSM wiki for details and Launchpad to translate more strings. --Don-vip (talk) 01:53, 12 May 2018 (UTC)

Administrative divisions

I recently updated the administrative divisions and created the Administrative divisions of Morocco page to make them clearer. For more context, see Talk:Administrative divisions of Morocco.
