Talk:Other open and crowdsourced geodatabases

I'm not that sure that it should be part of OSM based services what about a List of related Projects that is shrinked down and has only no OSM based things linke FreeThePostCode, OpenAerialmap? Would be a table be a good way to a compacter design? --!i! 17:48, 8 August 2010 (BST)
waze.com
May I ask how waze.com is a related project? They have in the past stated, that they are not going to use OSM data, as they what to be able to sell map data their users create. So they fully intend to keep their data as closed as possible and due to the SA clause in OSMs licence they couldn't do this. So they have stated that they won't use OSM unless they can simple take the data and not give back. This doesn't sound like a "sister project" to me, more like a competitor. - IMO this list is not dedicated to projects that cooperate with OSM. It should be a list of collecting different but georeferenced datas. Even if they don't share but use a cloud wisdom approach. You think we should be more sharp? --!i! 08:43, 14 August 2010 (BST)
- Clearly we should have a wiki page waze explaining why you should not contribute to this closed-data system. I've been working on Google map maker page along those lines recently. -- Harry Wood 18:01, 21 July 2011 (BST)
Page title is too vague
Page title 'Related Projects' is too vague. We'd end up listing everything here. The only reason we're not listing bazillions of projects here already, is that people haven't tended to find the page, and so we're left we a odd collection of a few people's ideas of related projects. We now have project listing pages with slightly better focus. I think we should probably decommission this one -- Harry Wood 23:33, 27 March 2011 (BST)
- You are right Harry but I didn't find a better title that is some kind 'well known'. Do you have an idea? --!i! 07:39, 28 March 2011 (BST)
- I agree with Harry. Regardless of the title of this page, what is its purpose? The page says that it's not for identifying potential data sources, but it's tagged as being in the data sources category. Jeffmeyer 05:59, 22 December 2012 (UTC)
- I have renamed the page to Other open and crowdsourced geodatabases and removed all projects that don't fit that description (as well as the data sources category). --Push-f (talk) 12:03, 4 July 2022 (UTC)

What is the purpose of this page?
It's not very clear to me. If we cannot identify a purpose, should it be marked for deletion? Jeffmeyer 06:00, 22 December 2012 (UTC)
- I agree that this page really needs a better definition of its purpose. Currently it contains users of OSM as well as competitors, free and non-free projects, crowdsourced projects and government data, ... I fail to see any guiding principle at work in this page. --Tordanik 07:50, 24 September 2013 (UTC)
