Why not join the license debate? OpenStreetMap is made up of it's members and is not controlled by evil dictators.

• Are you trying to combat non share-alike ideas? Please stop striking random sections of TODO lists and demanding citations for obvious facts (if non-PD-licenses don't restrict usage of maps, why do they exist?). Also note that contributors publishing data under PD will not stop main OSM from using it, they are not even legally able to do so. Absolutely not. The points struck are invalid. OSM data cannot be separated from non-PD users data. The Wiki PD Template is only a gesture. Fragmenting the project's public goodwill, contributors and limited developers should be avoided at all cost. Better to get involved in forming our new BETTER license than attempting to fragment and destroy the project. -- Firefishy 21:30, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

The points are not invalid. A region of the map with only PD contributors is most likely not derived from OSM data. Of course, you might state it is, but this is far from clear and would still not prevent asking people to offer PD as an alternative. --Tordanik 21:51, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Note that the AND data is NOT public domain, AND gave permission to Openstreetmap to import their data under a CC-BY-SA license. So no public domain. TIGER is PD though. --Skywave 19:40, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

aha.... OSM/PD has decided to use a Wikipedia style of PD.

'This project never got off the ground'

Thanks Firefishy for letting me know that this page was more active in the past. Although I just decided to take a look at the "Public Domain mailing list" and to my surprise it was active in July 2010, with people discussing things about some wikipage(this one amongh them?). I'm not sure if they were discussing this specific page.
