Mexican vs. Texmex
Here in the US, there is a group of food that is generally called "Mexican". However, it is an Americanized Mexican food called "Texmex". However, I suggest that we keep with the "Mexican" designation so that there isn't too much fragmentation. (This is just a preemptive suggestion.) — Val42 16:21, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
Takeaway, delivery, and seating
I propose to add the following:
If the place offers delivery, tag it as delivery=yes, and tag it with takeaway=yes if it offers take away. If the place is take away only, with no seating, you can tag it as seating=no, and the seating tag can also be used to note if the place has outdoor seating: seating=outdoor.
And, another example:

Does this sound reasonable, or is there a better way of tagging these attributes? --Kate (talk) 06:35, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
- May I suggest also to add something about "drivein" that would describe the ability to cary the food by car. --Marc 21:35, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
- I support this. Simple and logical. --Skippern 10:58, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
On the mailing list, I got feedback for the "seating" tag... Instead of no, we could put 0 and if there is seating, put number of seats (it may have to be a rough estimate). --Kate (talk) 19:35, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
- I support this. I just searched for such a feature, but seating yes or outdoor is enough you can use capacity for the number of seats. --Dampfklon 22:04, 14 June 2011 (BST)
- Point of reference, and possible alternative tag: indoor_seating=*.
- Possible reasons to choose seating would include simpler to tag. Reasons to choose indoor_seating would be more clear meaning Coolmule0 (talk)
Do regular food hawker stalls, hot dog carts, or kebab vans count?
Do regularly-used permanent sites for vendors selling food via
- wikipedia:Mobile catering or wikipedia:Food truck
- wikipedia:Hot dog stand
- wikipedia:Hawker (selling food)
- wikipedia:Kebab van
count as amenity=fast_food? Assume one can give approximate opening hours. Vendors like these are frequently required to use specified locations by the authorities, so given that wikipedia:Hawker centres might be best described using amenity=food_court already, does that mean that very regular and sited kebab vans or hot dog stands are enough of a permanent feature to be mapped (and should they be mapped in this way or as something "less restauranty" or lesser in importance)? --achadwick 22:05, 11 June 2011 (BST)
- Replying to myself, but Taginfo suggests that the key fast_food=* could be used for giving the type of fast food establishment. It's not much used at the moment, so somebody could claim it fr this sort of thing as more well established chain restaurants, fish and chip shops and greasy spoons. --achadwick 22:12, 11 June 2011 (BST)
