Confusing word
This is a very confusing usage of the word "tuition". As far as I can tell, the meaning of "place to get tutoring" is only found in Indian English, but in other dialects of English, "tuition" can only mean the money paid to attend a school. "Tutoring" is much more widely recognizable; office=tutoring would be a more intuitive tag for this purpose. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 17:23, 29 September 2022 (UTC)
- I agree that the tag is confusing. However, in BrE 'tuition' means "teaching or instruction, especially of individual pupils or small groups" (Oxford), while indeed in AmE it is the money being paid. Anyway, both 'tuition' and 'tutoring' describe the process, not the facility. For an amenity tag we need the physical location. I am tempted to put an ambox on the page discouraging its use.
Another question I wonder about is what happened to the status=draft, which seem to have fallen out of fashion? Somebody replaced it with 'in use' which I find strange for a 2-digit number of occurence? --Polarbear w (talk) 18:20, 29 September 2022 (UTC)- I know many tags that have a more common counterpart. Several times I asked the author of the edit with permission to replace the tag with another, was refused only once, the rest allowed me to replace and often thanked (who answered).
