Consulate versus embassy
A consulate is not an embassy and should NOT be tagged amenity=embassy. It should be tagged amenity=consulate. Please refer to the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, which is the definitive international law (treaty) on consulates.
Embassies are headed by ambassadors and charges d'affaires; consulates are headed by consuls and consuls general. They are two different institutions both juridically and practically. Apm-wa (talk) 10:10, 21 October 2018 (UTC)
- I agree. Lazyness should not result in mistagging. Fruit=apple, apple=pear is not a valid tagging concept. --Dieterdreist (talk) 09:24, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
- Very true.
- I could have said "mostly true" as some embassies have consular services at a separated place acting as a consulate.
- The Embassy of India - Consular Wing was tagged as embassy and now is tagged as consulate.
- On an administrative point of view, it's wrong, but on a public usage point of view it's right (the Embassy of India (Chancery) being located elsewhere). --Nospam2005 (talk) 19:57, 27 January 2022 (UTC)
- Answering myself: According to Talk:Tag:office=diplomatic#Consular_section_of_Embassy it can be tagged as consulate!
- Feel free to discuss on the Talk:Tag:office=diplomatic page (to avoid parallel discussions). --Nospam2005 (talk) 17:15, 28 January 2022 (UTC)
