Floating docks are invisible on the map by default
malcolmh described the issue in 2016 Floating dock rendering #2088: "An object tagged waterway=dock + dock=floating is usually situated offshore & hence the normal dock rendering (water) makes it invisible."
The issue persists: Floating docks are invisible by default, e.g. https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/243873818.
The predominant, although not widely used, workaround to make them visible seems to be adding the building
tag:
building=industrial
, e.g. https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/370651478building=dock
, e.g. https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/169526128building=ship
, e.g. https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/1168164510
Any opinions whether this is a good practice and if so, which of these alternatives should be added to the documentation? Or should it rather be addressed in the renderer like malcolmh originally suggested: "There should be a (quite thick) solid outline for this tag combination to render it visible. --Pineberry (talk) 19:03, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
