Term

There are several possible terms for a two-way road traffic and related hazard:

  • contraflow
  • opposing traffic
  • two-way traffic

Maybe a English native speaker can tell what is preferable to use for an international tag. --Chris2map (talk) 18:17, 8 October 2024 (UTC)

I think we should make a proposal or at the very least bring this up to the forums / mailing lists to define the two-way traffic warning properly because there still are few uses of this tag. I've used contraflow but only by virtue of being documented, not that I actually agree with this.
For me personally, two-way_traffic is the most natural, though it does mean having a value with dashes and spaces which feels a bit awkward, whereas contraflow feels more like a warning one-way street with contraflow traffic (this doesn't mean there aren't any uses thereof) than a street becoming two-way, and opposing_traffic feels more like a road becomes temporarily two-way then two one-way roads merging into one.
