redundant?
Is this the same as man_made=pumping_rig? --Fkv 07:13, 23 May 2011 (BST)
- No, a pumping rig might be put in the middle of a pipeline to enhance flow, but might also be located on top of a well. --Skippern 19:48, 4 September 2011 (BST)
- Not all oil and gas wells require pumping. Sometime the gas or oil is produced due to natural pressure in the reservoir, other times a liquid such as water is re-injected into the reservoir to produce pressure. Some petroleum wells have just a fire-hydrant-like structure on top of the well head, called a "Christmas tree" in the industry, for the valves necessary to control flow of oil or gas. --Jeisenbe (talk) 23:26, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
pumpjack?
How do you mark presence of pumpjack?
Note that some petroleum wells may be without pumpjacks and some pumpjacks may be without petroleum wells Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 13:01, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
- In other words, I propose to remove man_made=pumpjack from "tagging mistakes" section Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 13:01, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
- Pumpjack as nodding donkey is marked with mechanical_coupling=nodding_donkey. man_made=pumpjack should be replaced and remain in possible synonyms.
- I'm not aware of any discussion in favor of this man_made=* value to increase its usage starting from end of 2022. Fanfouer (talk) 13:19, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
- Is it suitable also for cases where there is pumpjack standing for example as museum exhibit? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 13:28, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
- It depends in what coupling the pumpjack is involved: If it's a pump, disused:man_made=pump + mechanical_coupling=nodding_donkey. It can be a well (but I doubt the whole well remains in the museum): disused:man_made=petroleum_well + mechanical_coupling=nodding_donkey Fanfouer (talk) 13:49, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
- In case that I encountered it was just pumpjack without machinery powering it and without oil well itself. Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 13:22, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
- Even if the pumpjack is most visible part, it should be a pump. disused:man_made=pump + mechanical_coupling=nodding_donkey+ exhibit=science could be fine Fanfouer (talk) 14:35, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
