A 'bookmaker' makes books. A better value would be 'betting shop' aka 'turf accountant'

It's also not a shop but an amenity.

No, William Hill, Ladbrokes and the like are commonly referred to (and in some cases refer to themselves) as bookmakers. Math1985 (talk) 22:39, 16 July 2016 (UTC)

Few days ago I noticed an abnormal tag in the middle of somewhere not expected. I searched in wiki and I realized some people in Iran used this tag by mistake. On one hand, translation of "bookmaker" in MapsMe for Persian and Arabic is publisher which is wrong. I assume some others mistook it for toll on roads. So I think there should be proper information on what this tag is and how to prevent mistakes similar to what I noted here. It is good to have a section on wiki (en) and note that this tag has nothing to do with book for which are that x and y tags. Such information should be also shared in translation of this page into other languages. Ahangarha (talk) 18:47, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
