@Geozeisig, you restricted the usage of the tag without explanation. When the physical feature is just mapped as a node, than logically the sport tag would be on a node. When the feature is an oval track mapped as MP, the tag would be on a relation. I see no reason to exclude 'stadium' or 'sports_centre' when they are dedicated to this sport. --Polarbear w (talk) 10:27, 3 January 2019 (UTC)

I tried to describe how it should be done. And most people do it that way. If you look at taginfo there is only leisure=pitch. You can discuss it, but track is preferable. Maybe they want to represent an area. I have mentioned that then area=yes is necessary. I don't think there is a running stadium and if there would be a track for running inside.
The relation we need for the multipolygon not for the sport. The sports tag can be mentioned in a multipolygon. See: multipolygon_is_a_relation.--geozeisig (talk) 07:06, 4 January 2019 (UTC)
fine, the perspective that a MP is not considered 'relational' is acceptable. Not sure what you mean with "at taginfo there is only leisure=pitch". I see this tag combined 92% with leisure=track, 5% with leisure=pitch, IIRC correctly only combinations >1000 are shown, overpass finds about 50 on stadium. If a stadium is dedicated to one particular sport, the sport tag can be both on the stadium and the pitch/track. My concern is not to exclude situations that are more rare and we might not know. E.g. running on a machine. Thus including the word 'typically' would help. Also, there are 450 sport=running on a node, which is fine as long as the details are not mapped yet.--Polarbear w (talk) 12:06, 4 January 2019 (UTC)
