It is not a proper waterway

Hello, this value doesn't relate to a proper water way, unlink most used river, stream. We should not overload waterway=* with other values than actual flows. Fanfouer (talk) 07:26, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

I hear you, but I'm afraid that ship has sailed. There are numerous tags in use under "waterway" that are not linear flows. No data consumer can assume that any unknown waterway value is a flow. Quincylvania (talk) 13:49, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
It's still possible to refine most prominent values with only 2k uses before it's too late. And we should refrain from proposing any new waterway=* values that aren't a flow. Fanfouer (talk) 13:55, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
I'm not sure I understand? waterway=dam is not a flow and it has over 239,000 uses. waterway=link also isn't a flow but it's still a "waterway" in the literal sense, unlike waterway=dam. It's part of the waterway network. Quincylvania (talk) 19:05, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
