Talk:Tagging for the router

sharp turns

Thanks for the guidance here. But I can not find an advice for such situation: How can difficult, tight, sharp turns with steep gradients be mapped? There are no actual turn restrictions, but you want to avoid such confusing, blind or difficult intersection turns. --Martin-osm (talk) 12:41, 1 October 2024 (UTC)

@Martin-osm: If there is no actual turn restrictions, you shouldn't tag restrictions. Just map the road geometries truthfully (better with less details then with more, to make such sharp turns easier to detect by software!) and your router should be able to detect it and add heavier penalties to such turns as opposed to "regular" turns (if not, ask them for such enhancement and/or switch to better router). You might also be interested in tagging turn:lanes=sharp_left/sharp_right if applicable.
Relatedly, if there exists traffic sign such as hazard=curve, you can map that too (but don't "invent" them if they don't exist in reality). --mnalis (talk) 21:46, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
