Talk:Wiki Cleanup Drive
Discuss Wiki Cleanup Drive
Moved to 'Wiki Cleanup Drive'
I've moved the items listed here, onto the list at WikiProject Cleanup (and created corresponding discussions on the relevant pages) ...except for those items listed here which were in fact technical bugs/enhancements related to the wiki software. These belong on Talk:Wiki.
What's left of this page I've moved to 'Wiki Cleanup Drive', where we can start deciding when to schedule an event. As you can see this links to WikiProject Cleanup for all listing of cleanup tasks (we've always had a list there)
I also need to come up with some other tasks to list on WikiProject Cleanup, which will be more appropriate for attempting to solve as a group of many people concurrently, because if ten people try to rewrite the help information on the JOSM page all at the same time, then that wont work at all

When?
When is this event going to happen? Personally I would chew on the work part time over a period of a week rather than working full-time over a lovely summer weekend. Happy for it to be billed as a weekend as long as I can pick up suitable tasks from the list and do them at a time of my choosing. PeterIto
- Yeah I didn't yet get around to coming up with a list of suitable types of cleanup tasks. Sorting out categories is a good example of the kind of thing which we can work on all at once -- Harry Wood 13:49, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
- It would also be good to deal with some of the merges (for example Railway and Railways); we could each 'claim' a few of those. Lets create a list of tasks on the main Cleanup page of things that need doing, and then list the ones we want to do for this 'event'. Focusing on getting all the pages categorised into the main categories would probably be a great start, because one can then focus on sort the wiki out category by category, for example Category:Water_feature or Category:Railways. One initially needs to do a search and categorising pass just to see what there is in the wiki on the subject at all before attempting to rationalise it all! PeterIto 15:41, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
delete?
Should'nt this page be deleted? The idea never became a real status. (delete as part of the project ;-) ) Hadhuey 13:40, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
- if you asking me, yes you can. But on the other hand it would be better to restart it, so making a POTW or a 'night of the wiki' where the wikiteam assists via IRC to people scrubbing the wiki? --!i! 18:21, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
- I dont know if there are enough people for a task like this. At the moment this is a very outdated page. I think its more important to have a well structured "Wiki cleanup page". The idea for a cleanup drive can be hold there. Hopefully there will be a chance to make campaign when there is enough manpower. Hadhuey 21:38, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

- also agree with this.. --Martin Renvoize 07:51, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

There's a history of edits on the page, people discussing etc. It shouldn't just be erased from history (as it is for any non-wiki admin when you "delete"). Instead a redirect would be more appropriate, and this Talk page should remain in place. In any case the page did actually carefully document some of the challenges and reasons why an event hasn't yet been organised, which may be useful in itself? Maybe not. I guess I'll just redirect -- Harry Wood (talk) 18:13, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
