Windows CE Core

I am hardly searching for a good working solution for "Windows CE Core". The only solution I found until now is OziexplorerCE, which doesnt make me happy at all.

ODGPS

I'm using ODGPS with GPSGate on my Acer. It generally does the job, but has a few limitations as listed on my user page. Perhaps we should have a page about each application reviewing them in the context of OSM. BSGPS sounds interesting. I shall be trying it out soon. Steevc 08:59, 30 August 2007 (BST)

Overlap

This page overlaps somewhat with Making Tracks with Homebrew-ware. Perhaps it should be dropped. There are quite a few links to it. I would like to see nice tables listing the applications with licence, price etc and a link to a specific wiki page that has the details. Currently we merge all Software usnig Template:Software2 for direct tagging on the tool pages and using a bot to collecting all together. Therefore we merge both pages. --!i! 08:53, 21 August 2010 (BST)

Development Need

If I had any programming skills, I'd do this myself...

I think there is a big need for a piece of software running on Windows Mobile (and maybe S60 too) with the following features:

• OSM slippy map
• GPS support
• local cache that can be manually populated easily (eg using the slippymap interface)
• refresh individual tiles or entire cache (for when connected to wifi/pc)
• track logging
• single button waypoint adding - voice or text selectable, where you can type immediately after pressing waypoint button
• upload GPX files direct to OSM.
• idiot proof installation and use - no specialist knowledge necessary.

There will be more and more people out there with smart phones with these one of these OSs with built in GPS. Such a piece of software would really help more people get into OSM.

A second application that would be very useful is a WM program that geotags photos as you take them using the PDA/phone. Something similar to the Locr app but actually writing the GPS coords into the EXIF, rather than into a sidecar file, so that JOSM plugins can read it.

The closest I can find is BSGPSPDA, but it doesn't have several of the features above, and doesn't seem to work properly on my WM6 device.

Do Windows Mobile PDAs run J2ME midlets? A quick googling seems to indicate they can be made to run J2ME apps. If that is the case, mom already has many of the features you suggest (though not the slippymap interface, but it shows the main OSM map) and has feature requests for most of them and could be progressing in the direction where it has the features you suggest. It runs on S60 phones as well as other non-Symbian Java-capable phones (as long as they have bluetooth or location service support in java). --Jkp 09:41, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Great, thanks for pointing this out, I was unaware of it. I'll test it out when I get a chance. My WM6 device can run J2ME midlets as it shipped with s Java implementation (Esmertec Jbed) however, using MGMaps on it, it can't access the built in GPS on my device. It looks like MOM has COM port access listed in the to-do list. I eagerly await! On the other hand, a native WM app would be great, as most WM devices don't ship with the ability to run Java apps. :( Daveemtb 14:23, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Merge Page with Making tracks..

Personally I'm against the idea as the Making_Tracks_with_Homebrew-ware page seems very crowded. However if a merge does go ahead then could the "Using OSM Data" section of the WinPDA page remain where it is.Dmgroom 11:30, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

yes. The subjects are related, and should be prominently cross-linked, but no need for a merge. The merge template was added by User:Uhu01 with no justification as far as I can tell. Removing it. -- Harry Wood 11:05, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Tool for the blind

Hi, I am searching for a tool that works with text output instead of graphics to record tracks. It shall be used with a screenreader software by a blind person on an Windows Mobile PDA to track missing streets by foot. It would be nice if it could also import OSM POIs and crossings like the Symbian OS Software Loadstone-GPS. Any ideas? --Lulu-Ann 12:40, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
