Template talk:Archived proposal
Huh?
Where do I get an archive_id? Could someone explain the process. Do I rename the proposal first, copy it, something else? Brycenesbitt (talk) 01:15, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
- You get the archive id by going to the version history and clicking on the version you want to link to. In the URL you will see something like "&oldid=1151896". The numeric value is the id you want.
- As for the process: When a proposal is successfully accepted, you copy the content to a tag documentation page, and reference it using Template:Approved feature link. Then you replace the content of the proposal page (except the infobox at the top and the link to the tag documentation page) with this template. --Tordanik 15:47, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
Archiving without hiding page content
Triggered by discussion on 'Talk:Wiki#Deleted picture - dead links - picture redirect' and due to the issue of a removed image that was used in a proposal there are ideas to change the way of archiving proposals. – Currently, the content of a proposal page is deleted and replaced by the archive link.
The issue with "hiding" content in a revision is that users and software cannot access the content directly but have to open the linked revision. In addition to the convenience, this has the disadvantage that links and images can no longer be monitored by the wiki system. This means that the use of images is no longer recorded and images may be deleted during clean-up activities (in the example due to a double on WCommons with a different file name). If the page content were not archived, such cases would be avoided.
If it were changed, there is the risk not viewing the original valid proposal page but a page that was edited or changed after the approval (voting). But the revision ID can also be manipulated. This applies to all variants.
What are your opinions on this? Do you have further ideas?
I started an attempt on User:Chris2map/Sandbox (perma). --Chris2map (talk) 11:57, 12 April 2025 (UTC)
- I agree with the arguments. I like the template and you can boldly introduce it. maro21 14:22, 12 April 2025 (UTC)
