Tōkyō-to (東京都) is a metropolitan prefecture in Kanto, Japan at latitude 35°40′48.00″ North, longitude 139°45′36.00″ East.

Subdivisions

The former Tokyo Prefecture (東京府, Tōkyō-fu) was merged with the former city of Tokyo (東京市, Tōkyō-shi) to form the current "metropolitan prefecture". The metropolitan prefecture, mostly located to the south-east of Honshū (本州), the largest island of Japan to the centre, includes:

• the former city of Tokyo to the East, which was split into today's 23 special wards, with quasi-municipal status (but some subdomains are managed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government):

  • Ogasawara Subprefecture, made of one municipality (a village): Ogasawara (also managing two other tiny outlying islands).
