Traversable refers to surfaces which may be traversed, or traveled across. This is most often used in the context of discussing raised or lowered islands located in the middle of a road or to a median separating two roadways. If an island is sufficiently above or below the surrounding road so that it is difficult for a vehicle to travel across the island, then it is considered to be non-traversable.
