I'm generally working on the Portland, Oregon area with an emphasis on Washington County and Beaverton.

Most of my efforts are in aligning Tiger data and adding a few new streets. I also work on unbraiding streets anywhere in the U.S. Let me know if you find an area with a bunch of them.

GPS

My GPS logger/receiver is an i-Blue 747 Bluetooth+USB Data Logger. It is very accurate and has a very fast lock-on time. Often I use it alone to capture tracks and then upload them from my desktop. Other times I use it with my Nokia N810 internet tablet. I never use the N810's built-in GPS for capturing data, since the iBlue 747 has much better reception.

I also use a Garmin StreetPilot C330 to display maps while driving.

I'm still looking for a good vector-mapping application for my Nokia N810. Maemo Mapper is great, if you have pre-downloaded map bitmaps or have always-on Internet. But I want a vector-map application where I can download an OSM area and always have it available at any resolution.

• Onion Mapper looks like it has the right features. I can't find one compiled for OS2008 Diablo (the Chinook one won't install for me), and I haven't succesfully figured out how to install and use the maemo cross-compile tools on my Ubuntu system. The docs are a moving target, so correct matching versions are hard to determine.
• Navit looks good, and has a binary installer that works on OS2008 Diablo. Configuring it through the xml config file is a lot more confusing that configuring MaemoMapper. Still working on it.

1. I started with a Palm Vx PDA with a Magellan GPS Companion attachment, and the cotoGPS software.

Licensing

I like the spirit of OSM. I trust the license working group to figure out the right license to make sure some bad guy doesn't exploit OSM, whether that uses cc-by-sa, ODbL, or another one with a similar intent. I don't care what happens to my own particular contributions.

All my contributions to OpenStreetMap are released into the public domain. This applies worldwide. In case this is not legally possible, I grant anyone the right to use my contributions for any purpose, without any conditions, unless such conditions are required by law.
