My original interest in GIS developed through a work placement project that was utilising map data to display site of specific wildlife interest in london. It was doing this first introduced my to map data, what was out there and what could be done with it. Being a lover of open source software and long time Linux user finding this project was wonderful after working with the hugly costly Ordance Survey data. As much as at the moment there wont be a big shift away from them for data its nice to know that at least there could be some compition very soon
