User:Frederik Ramm
I am a long-time contributor to OSM in Germany and elsewhere. I have worked on a lot of different OSM software, and I was the JOSM maintainer from Imi's departure until Dirk took over. I'm also a regular OSM conference visitor, having participated in all but one "State of the Map" conferences and lots of other events. The pet image to the right of this paragraph was added by someone else and I will not remove it for fear of being turned into a haddock.
Together with Jochen Topf, I wrote the world's first book on OSM which is now also available in English. The two of us also founded Geofabrik (wiki link, web page), an all-round OpenStreetMap consultancy and software development firm in Karlsruhe, Germany.
I am a prolific writer on many of OpenStreetMap's Mailing Lists and one of the top-ranked contributors to our help system.
I was a member of the OpenStreetMap Foundation board of directors from 2012 to 2019, and am still on the Data Working Group.

Licensing
I believe that intellectual property is overrated.
All my contributions to OpenStreetMap are released into the public domain. This applies worldwide. In case this is not legally possible, I grant anyone the right to use my contributions for any purpose, without any conditions, unless such conditions are required by law. |
Even though I think that PD is the superior choice in many ways, I support the planned move to ODbL. It's better than what we have now anyway!
Fixbot and Reverts
I used to run a little "bot" every now and then to fix problems in OSM but I have stopped doing that; I think that automated corrections should only be done in exceptional circumstances. If you find older changes in the database that bear the signature "created_by=fixbot" and have been changed by me (that's "woodpeck") then you might find more information here: User:Frederik Ramm/Fixbot Log
I have written a number of tools that help in isolating and reverting certain changes or changesets, rolling back vandalism and so on. I use them in my work for OSMF's Data working group but I am also willing to help when contacted privately. The tools are available in SVN, but please only use them if you know what you are doing, and feel confident you can fix anything you might break!
In December 2014 I have, after some discussions, reverted a number of disputed edits that user Ulamm had made to various cycling-related Wiki pages. Details on the tagging mailing list.
