Data Collection

Data collection is done in two ways:

a) with a Garmin ETREX Summit as a standalone device, used on short trips and walks through the town.

b) with the following setup for larger trips when using the car: Image:collecting-device.jpg (image unlinked due to unclear copyright).

The data collection with the embedded PC (with a debian installation) is done using gpsd, gpspipe and a little script which creates a new file every day.

The data is then copied to the workstation (with ssh), converted into GPX using gpsbabel and the loaded up to the openstreetmap server.
