	lanes=2 Shoulders are not included in the lanes count.	UK example: A slow tractor has pulled over onto the hard shoulder to allow other traffic to pass. The dashed yellow lines show that this is permissible.
	OSM way direction: front to back lanes:forward=1 lanes:backward=2 lanes:psv:backward=1
	OSM way direction: front to back lanes:forward=2 lanes:backward=3	Major street with five lanes. Because the number of lanes is odd, the number of forward and backward lanes should be tagged explicitely.
	width=...	If lanes are not marked and vary over time it is better to omit lanes and just tag the witdh of the carriageway.
	The street is in principle wide enough for two lanes (even though not marked): width=5 source:width=estimated lanes=2 But there are parking cars on the street that reduce the available width: parking:lane:both=parallel parking:lane:both:parallel=on_street	Example of a (two-way) street in Germany without clearly marked lanes, but wide enough even for two trucks. However, the fact that cars are parking on the carriageway (maybe under some conditions) is an important information and effectively result in only one available lane for traffic.
	Two separate OSM ways, for the right one (with a bus/taxi lane): lanes=3 lanes:psv=1 width=... For tagging of the shoulder following proposal exists: shoulder=yes shoulder:width=...	Bus lane on M4 in UK which is mainly used by taxis.
	lanes=6 lanes:hov=1 Note: The right-most lane is a merge lane, see Key:turn for tagging.	Six lanes where one lanes is a dedicated HOV (high occupancy vehicle) lane.
