I'm Richard Fairhurst - cartographer, developer, journalist, bike advocate and canal person. I've been involved in OpenStreetMap since November 2004.
I'm building cycle.travel, perhaps the most advanced bike routing engine in the world with OSM-powered maps and journey-planning.
I've written OSM stuff including Tilemaker and Potlatch 3 (...and 1 and 2). I map in the Cotswolds where I live; elsewhere where I visit; and am regrettably involved in the Sisyphean task of TIGER fixup, particularly identifying rural paved roads.
Useful cycleway tagging
As an aide-memoire:
- Proposed_features/cycleway:separation - can be used to continue cycleways over a junction with separation=no
- Proposed_features/Key:is_sidepath - use this to mark that a cycleway is a roadside path
- Tag:junction=yes#How_to_use_on_an_area - junction=yes for an area so turn instructions can be collapsed
- Key:bicycle:type - probably the easiest way of differentiating gravel bike routes
All my contributions to OpenStreetMap are released into the public domain. This applies worldwide. In case this is not legally possible, I grant anyone the right to use my contributions for any purpose, without any conditions, unless such conditions are required by law. |
I don't give a flying monkey's for tag voting, automatic changebots, endless discussions, categories, or any of that crap, but prefer to get on and actually do stuff. |
