Tips for getting shp data ready for OSM
Obtain gdal and PROJ.4
To convert a non WGS84 shp to WGS84, at a terminal:
ogr2ogr -t_srs EPSG:4326 -f "ESRI Shapefile" [DEST_FILE] [SRC_FILE]
Completed work
I've uploaded the entire hydronet of the Olympic Peninsula, many rivers will need to have their ways reversed and duplicate nodes deleted

Work in Progress
I'm focusing my efforts on Clallam and Jefferson counties in Washington. I'm currently importing trail information for the national park and forest and developing a toolchain to go from e00->shp->osm seamlessly and with minimal script hackage.
