Do not edit the Wiki for Taginfo validator!

Thank you for correcting the errors reported by the Taginfo validator. There were many obvious errors and typos. However, please do not correct errors FOR the Taginfo validator. Validators are used to find POTENTIAL errors and are not infallible. There will always be false positives. Don't fix errors that you don't understand. Taginfo is a tool that can fetch data from the Wiki, but it is not for us to adapt to Taginfo, but vice versa.

you removed the link to the rendering, even though it is consistent with our documentation, and there are no renderings on Taginfo at all.
That was a misunderstanding of the documentation (which I (and Joto) mistakenly thought required those parameters to be images); after you pointed out the relevant documentation, I agreed with you, made sure the mistaken changes were reverted, and requested a change to taginfo, which Joto made (albeit not as fully as you and I would have preferred). Thank you for checking my edits, I appreciate the second look. I agree that correct and complete documentation is paramount, and I have avoided resolving some of the taginfo warnings because I didn't see a way to resolve them without injuring the documentation. I will look over the specific cases you brought up and we can discuss them individually. Thanks again for your attention and effort for OSM. JesseFW (talk) 22:26, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

use chaange description

can you take a few sec to write a chaange description ? seeing "-" in the history doesn't said anything about the change Marc marc (talk) 09:00, 29 June 2023 (UTC)

Sorry about that -- I hoped the simplicity of the changes would be self-evident, but apparently not! I'll do better in the future. JesseFW (talk) 11:50, 29 June 2023 (UTC)

Reduction in list of possible tagging mistakes

Hello! I saw that you reverted my edit where I reduced the list of possible tagging mistakes for the species=* tag. I understand your rationale, and wanted to explain mine in more detail. Basically, the reasoning was to make the list less overwhelming, and focus on the major sources of mistakes, since those are the ones that tend to self-propagate in OSM as they are suggested in editors like iD or EveryDoor. There's a huge long tail of smaller errors for the species tag that we could try to get to zero, but it wouldn't make sense to list them all in that section; so in the interests of helping editors prioritize the most prevalent and more damaging errors, I removed the entries that were presumably common in the past but are now residual. Hope this makes sense! Cheers, Waldyrious (talk) 00:18, 9 January 2025 (UTC)

Ah, that makes sense. Rather than removing them, I suggest making two sections, for the more common and rarer errors. I'll do that. JesseFW (talk) 01:05, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
