Do not edit the Wiki for Taginfo validator!
Thank you for correcting the errors reported by the Taginfo validator. There were many obvious errors and typos. However, please do not correct errors FOR the Taginfo validator. Validators are used to find POTENTIAL errors and are not infallible. There will always be false positives. Don't fix errors that you don't understand. Taginfo is a tool that can fetch data from the Wiki, but it is not for us to adapt to Taginfo, but vice versa.

- you removed the correct data, just so the Taginfo validator wouldn't report an error.

- you removed the link to the rendering, even though it is consistent with our documentation, and there are no renderings on Taginfo at all.
- That was a misunderstanding of the documentation (which I (and Joto) mistakenly thought required those parameters to be images); after you pointed out the relevant documentation, I agreed with you, made sure the mistaken changes were reverted, and requested a change to taginfo, which Joto made (albeit not as fully as you and I would have preferred). - Here you removed relevant information from the description, although such characters are not forbidden in the description, this is a Taginfo problem.

- I didn't remove the information, I rephrased it to avoid using those particular punctuation characters. While I sympathize with your view that well-behaved software should be able to handle those characters without difficulty, I also sympathize with Joto's desire to make it as easy to handle tag descriptions as possible. We can discuss this further on the talk page: Talk:Key:phone#Does_the_template_description_need_to_use_a_literal_plus_sign?. JesseFW (talk) 23:08, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- There is no agreement for blanking infoboxes and relying only on data items. Over the past month I have spent many hours correcting several hundred pages that fetched data from data items, and there was nothing in the infobox. New users then do not know how to correct or add data.

- I fully agree with not blanking infoboxes, and appreciate your effort fixing the damage caused by people doing that (and I'd be glad to help if there's more to do)! The edits you refer to were in order to make the desired icon (the question mark) show up, as blank is the valid and accepted method for doing that. JesseFW (talk) 23:13, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- I asked you to not edit the Wiki for Taginfo: [1] - correct documentation on the Wiki has a higher priority than errors of any validator. maro21 16:56, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for checking my edits, I appreciate the second look. I agree that correct and complete documentation is paramount, and I have avoided resolving some of the taginfo warnings because I didn't see a way to resolve them without injuring the documentation. I will look over the specific cases you brought up and we can discuss them individually. Thanks again for your attention and effort for OSM. JesseFW (talk) 22:26, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
