Hi Kake,

I spotted you'd signed up for the next London Wiki Wednesday meet-up. I'll see you there! (Harry Wood on Wiki Wednesdays) ...I was going to wait till then to ask you if you'd seen openstreetmap.org, but I guess the answer's yes! Welcome!

So you've seen the London Tube Stations page. That's kind of a funny little sub-project going on here. The main activity is centred around creating maps (e.g. I've been working on London maps). Is there some scope for using OSM map renderings within OpenGuides? I've not really got involved much in OpenGuides (been more of a WikiTravel.org editor so far) but both projects could benefit from some open maps I guess.

Hi Harry!

Thanks for the welcome! I'm a bit constrained in what I can do for OSM at the moment, since I only have a borrowed GPS, and I don't have a cable for it, so the best I can do is grab points and then get them off the device by looking at its screen and copying them down from there. It's kind of tedious. I will get something better at some point, but I don't want to spend money until I'm sure of what I want.

You'll be pleased to know that The Oxford Guide is already using OSM data — see for example the Martyr's Memorial page. I don't know the details of how they did that, though; I really should find out! It possibly had something to do with User:Gagravarr, who is also an OpenGuides person.

I've done a bit of stuff relating to London and Brighton on WikiTravel; I'm still feeling my way around what is and isn't appropriate there.
