Use admin_level for district / administrative?
- I don't know the court system in Germany, but in the USA there are courts for each county (admin_level=6), State (admin_level=4) and also Federal courts (admin_level=2). Would using the admin level also fit for some types of German courts? --Jeisenbe (talk) 01:01, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
- Also note that most States have 1 or more "Supreme Court(s)" which are admin_level=4 --Jeisenbe (talk) 01:03, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
- Using admin_level=* is my intention too but in Germany I noticed that the area served by district courts doesn't necessarily match to administrative boundaries. For example district courts in Saarland: The area served by district courts either matches admin_level=6 (in the image: "outline is filled with only one colour") or is smaller than admin_level=6 but bigger than admin_level=8 (in the image: "outline is filled with two different colours") although some states don't have admin_level=7. I don't think that this is much of a problem but I'll definitely have to ask the German community on their opinion.
- Personally, I don't think that there's a problem with having two or more courts in one state with the same admin_level=* and courthouse=* value. --Nw520 (talk) 20:53, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
Religious instead of ecclesiastical
- In other countries, like Indonesia, there are religious courts, but they are not "ecclesiastical" since that word means "relating to the Christian Church or its clergy." So I suggest "court=religious" instead, so that it can be used in other cultures. --Jeisenbe (talk) 01:01, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
- Hello Jeisenbe, thank you very much for your input. Currently, this proposel is just a very early draft so I was quite pleasantly suprised to already receive some constructive feedback. I agree with your suggestion to rather use "court=religious" and have changed the table accordingly. I also added that one could add religion=* and denomination=* if needed. --Nw520 (talk) 12:34, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
Adjective or noun?
Some of the values are adjectives, like "administrative", "appelate", "commercial" and "supreme"
But others are nouns: "finance", "employment", etc. - Can this be standardized? --Jeisenbe (talk) 01:23, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
- I'm not sure whether for every noun there's a fitting adjective or vice versa. The current values are just the english name minus "court" which I think is quite intuitive and easy to remember. However, if you find more fitting ones please feel free to edit the proposal as it's still an early draft. --Nw520 (talk) 12:34, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
