Motorroller 45 km/h

Hallo Pascal,

--Pascal

Typhoon Haiyan changesets vis image

Hi Pascal. Nice work on the Typhoon Haiyan changesets vis.

It's also a featured image on the Main Page. I put that screenshot there today, without much pre discussion (naughty me) but there is discussion here now: Featured image proposals#Typhoon Haiyan changesets vis. We like to have clear licensing for all the featured images. As a separate thing from the software itself, it would be helpful if you were able to declare that screenshot image open licensed

Hi Harry, sorry for my quite late answer. Yes, the mentioned picture is open licensed. --Pascal

OSM heat map - wrong locations?

Hi, I've recently discovered your excellent yosmhm service and I love it; but from even more recent observations I think there is a small positioning error: for example my heat map shows - small green dot in the bottom-left corner - that I would have mapped something at La Sure, while what I have mapped is the Cascade de la Pisse, about 2 km north of that... Still, excellent work! Ocirne94 (talk) 18:56, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

changeset vis

Hi Pascal, I wanted to comment at htxp://neis-one.org/2014/02/osm-changesets/ but it is very hard ... "ERROR: Unreadable CAPTCHA token file". So, my comment:

Do you also search in the "source" tag (its use is encouraged by the recent JOSM versions)?

Very small changeset bboxes are currently very hard to spot on the map.  :-( Maybe you have an idea to make them more visible. Maybe enlarge each changeset to at least 2x2 pixels?

Otherwise: good idea! --Aseerel4c26 (talk) 17:00, 4 February 2014 (UTC)

Gratulation

Hallo Pascal,

Small bug on resultmaps.neis-one.org

I din't find any public tracker, I hope you don't mind me posting a bug report here.

It looks like you system don't handle when a user changes there display name.

Example on newusers Sweden there is a user name "Nibur" but there is no userpage for that user on osm.org And on the hdyc page the user have 100+ change sets but no edits.

I think the user changed their name to Hodir atleast the nr of change sets and the area is similar.

Thanks for noticing. Usernames of active contributors are updated within 24h. I guess the mentioned issue doesn't exist anymore, right? --Pascal

Yes that username have updated, it was the first time I noticed anyone changing their username. After that several returning users have done the same and their names have all updated. Feel free to remove my comments.

Missing file information

Hello! And thanks for your upload - but some extra info is necessary.

Sorry for bothering you about this, but it is important to know source of the uploaded files.

Are you the author of image File:ORS Components.png ?

Or is it copied from some other place (which one?)?

Please, add this info to the file page - something like "I took this photo" or "downloaded from -website link-" or "I took this screeshot of program XYZ" or "this is map generated from OpenStreetMap data and SRTM data" or "map generated from OSM data and only OSM data".

Doing this would be already very useful.

Licensing - photos

In case that you are the author of the image: Would you agree to open licensing of this image, allowing its use by anyone (similarly to your OSM edits)?

In case where it is a photo you (except relatively rare cases) author can make it available under a specific free license.

Would you be OK with CC0 (it allows use without attribution or any other requirement)?

Or do you prefer to require attribution and some other things using CC-BY-SA-4.0?

If you are the author: Please add {{CC0-self}} to the file page to publish the image under CC0 license.

You can also use {{CC-BY-SA-4.0-self}} to publish under CC-BY-SA-4.0 license.

Once you add missing data - please remove {{Unknown|subcategory=uploader notified March 2022}} from the file page.

Licensing - other images

If it is not a photo situation gets a bit more complicated.

See Drafts/Media file license chart that may help.

note: if you took screenshot of program made by someone else, screenshot of OSM editor with aerial imagery: then licensing of that elements also matter and you are not a sole author.

note: If you downloaded image made by someone else then you are NOT the author.

Note that in cases where photo is a screenshot of some software interface: usually it is needed to handle also copyright of software itself.

Note that in cases where aerial imagery is present: also licensing of an aerial imagery matter.

Help

Feel free to ask for help if you need it - you can do it for example by asking on Talk:Wiki: new topic.

Please ask there if you are not sure what is the proper next step. Especially when you are uploading files that are not your own work or are derivative work (screenshots, composition of images, using aerial imagery etc).

If you are interested in wider discussion about handling licencing at OSM Wiki, see this thread.

(sorry if I missed something that already states license and source: I am looking through over 20 000 files and fixing obvious cases on my own, in other I ask people who upladed files, but it is possible that I missed something - in such case also please answer)
