Wiki:Bureaucrats

Bureaucrats are wiki administrators with an extended set of permissions. While not technically necessary, all bureaucrats have been administrators at the same time.

The main purpose of bureaucrats is to deal with promotions and denotions of users. In case you need assistance and are not certain if such administrative powers are required, you might want to consider contacting a member of the wiki team or post your question at Talk:Wiki.

Most bureaucrats can be reached via their talk page (see column) or via the e-mail feature.

Typical tasks

Very few actions actually require bureaucrats' permissions, the most typical actions include:

  • hide, rename, and disable user accounts
  • assign and remove all user rights
  • hide specific page revisions and logs from other users including admins (also known as Supressors/Oversighters on Wikipedia)
  • check user's IP addresses (also known as Check users on Wikipedia)

Checking IP addresses is also possible for users with the check user permissions only, but this is currently unused (all check users are bureaucrats as well).

Bureaucrats with limited availability for user requests

Some users were added to the user group in order to carry out other duties which required advanced access to the wiki. They may be available for typical user requests but it is usually preferrable to contact other bureaucrats first with request such as changing username.
