WikiProject Uganda/Mapping Access to Digital Financial Services
A HOT project on Mapping Financial Services and Financial Inclusion in Uganda, started in October 2015 and ran until April 2016 with the support of FSD Uganda. The pilot program sought to address the need for a data collection methodology that is inexpensive, accurate, allows for frequent collection, and integrates seamlessly into existing processes. It served to grow and strengthen the Ugandan OpenStreetMap community, working with university students and community members to collect data on financial services, health facilities and education facilities in the areas where they lived. The program trained and equiped participants with the necessary skills, equipment, and other resources to collect and map this data. Universities being worked with included Makerere University (Kampala and Jinja campus), UCU Mbale, Livingstone International University, Busitema University in Tororo, and several other universities around Kampala.
