aerialway=* is used for various forms of transport for passengers and goods that use wires, including cable cars, gondolas, chair lifts, drag lifts, and zip lines.
Usage
Draw a way following the route of the cables. See pistes for more info specific to ski and snowsport lifts.
On ascending aerialways mapped as unclosed ways, the direction of the way should indicate the ascending direction. I.e. the way should start at the lower elevation (the valley station) and end at the higher elevation (the mountain station).

Aerialway attributes
The start and end nodes of a way tagged as a lift are assumed to be a station. These nodes may have their elevation documented with ele=*. Additional information should be tagged on the way (of the lift). Access may also depend on transport type (ski/foot/bicycle/etc.):

Add :summer or :winter subkeys where seasonal rules apply (often, in winter, only ascending is allowed). |

Tags to use in combination
Private use (forestry, agriculture...) aerialways can be tagged with access=private/forestry/... and other access=* restrictions.
Aerialways used for transport of goods could be mapped with foot=no. For extra detail add one of usage=industrial (industrial/mining aerialways) or usage=freight. Some freight/industrial aerialways may allow passengers, those might be tagged with foot=yes, foot=private, foot=forestry or similar.
