Cycling in Switzerland - Veloland Schweiz - La Suisse à vélo - La Svizzera in bici

The Swiss national cycle route netwrk as of Veloland Schweiz consists of nine (Nr. 1-9) national routes, 53 (Nr. 21..99) regional routes and 59 local routes. A list of the routes can be found on Wikipedia. The network is built with a lot of street signs so following them on the streets is easy.

IMPORTANT: the national and regional routes may have substantial parts that are not race bike compatible. The inline skating routes and some of local routes may be better for such purposes.

To do:

Complete the routes, that are incomplete yet. Some of the information doesn't seem up to date.
Add the comment incomplete to the incomplete routes
Add additional things to do here

Recommended tagging with relations

Routes may be marked by tagging each way, but this is not recommended.

I recommend using a Relation per route. Just add a relation to all the ways the route consists of. Relations can be extremely easy added with potlatch or JOSM.

The relations should have the tags listed here (based on a thread on the talk-ch mailing list, slightly extended with source:name and url).

Rendering

The cycle map has severe performance problems, you should not expect the data to be up to date or expect map changes and additions to be rendered in timeframes comparable to the other OSM provided maps. The following text is from the operator of the opencyclemap web site.

An international cycling map created from OSM data is available, provided by Andy Allan. The map rendering is still being improved, the data are updated every few days. It shows National Cycle Network cycle routes, other regional and local routes, and other cycling-specific features, such as:

dedicated cycle tracks and lanes
contours and hill colouring
bicycle parking
bike shops, toilets, drinking fountains, even pubs!
proposed bike routes (or numbering protocols), contrasted with the Lonvia map, below, which does not show proposed routes, but actual routes only

Waymarked Trails: Cycling by Sarah Hoffman is a layer superimposed over mapnik (Standard Map Layer) which shows marked cycle routes around the world. Updated minutely, it renders actual routes without the state=proposed tag. Therefore no proposed routes (or proposed numbering protocols) are displayed.
