Project OpenSeaMap-GEBCO

OpenSeaMap is working on a bathymetric description of sea bed.

Therefore we got from GEBCO (General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans) a worldwide database with water depths of the oceans.

Goal

Our goal is, to calculate a colored visual description of the sea bed topografie and to integrate it in the map. Dazu sollen die Basisdaten mit statistischen Methoden und selbst erhobenen Daten und mit weiteren Massendaten verfeinert werden, to get more precise values in the costal area.

Data

The data of GEBCO-08-Grid was recorded by deep sounder, the topografy was enhances by satellite data. The data are available with a grid resolution of 30 Winkelsekunden (1/2 nautical mile = 926 m), which is totally 9 Milliarden single points.

Approach

Die Daten werden lokal gespeichert und analysiert. Daraus werden Kacheln gerendert und mit den OpenSeaMap-Kacheln verschmolzen. Das Ergebnis soll dann unter CC-by-SA frei zur Verfügung stehen.
