Major features
Gloucestershire is home to several nationally recognised areas of importance such as the Cotswolds, or the River Severn. This section is to track progress in mapping these features.
Feature | Situation at 29/7/2009 | Progress | Relation |
---|---|---|---|
Cotswolds | The Cotswolds are a designated area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB) and are nationally, even internationally, recognised. Much of this area is already fairly well mapped, but does have some pretty large gaps in coverage and there is currently no outline of the AONB in the OSM data. As the area is a significant tourist attraction, progress here is highly desirable. | AONB boundary complete, villages and towns in the district and the AONB still need lots of work. | 166570 166570 |
Forest of Dean | The Forest of Dean is a large forest in Gloucestershire, one of the largest remaining in England. The Forest is also home to a few towns and many villages. The area is culturally and historically significant within Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Monmouthshire. OpenStreetMap coverage in this area is extremely limited with the forest itself almost entirely absent, and the towns and villages are barely mapped. | Little surveying has been done, most roads and landuse is from NPE and Yahoo. | 78975 78975 |
