India/Events/Open Data Days 2025
International Open Data Day is an annual event dedicated to raising awareness about open data and encouraging its use across various domains. This page serves as a documentation hub for listing events organized as part of Open Data Day 2025 in India and for tracking contributions of open data to OpenSteetMap.
As a global celebration, Open Data Day brings together communities, organizations, and individuals to advocate for transparency, collaboration, and accessibility of data. Participants engage in activities such as data sprints, workshops, hackathons, and discussions focused on improving open data ecosystems.
Open Data Day 2025 centers on the theme 'Open Data to Tackle the Polycrisis,' emphasizing the power of open data in addressing multiple, interconnected global crises—commonly referred to as a Polycrisis. This theme highlights how open data can be utilized to understand and mitigate complex challenges such as poverty, inequality, conflict, climate change, and disaster response.
To celebrate Open Data Day 2025, the OpenStreetMap (OSM) and Wikidata communities are working together to improve the integration of structured geographic data. This collaboration encourages participants to enhance OSM by adding Wikidata tags to relevant map features, ensuring better data consistency and connectivity. Contributors can help by verifying and linking place-based entities, refining metadata, and improving the quality of both platforms. Let’s bridge OSM and Wikidata to create richer, more accessible open data.
Feel free to add relevant events, projects, and datasets that contribute to the open data movement on Wikidata.
