ref:US:MA:SARIS is used to include the identifying numbers for rivers and streams in Massachusetts's Stream and River Inventory System. The original list is from 1982, and is available (and searchable!), as a PDF from: https://archives.lib.state.ma.us/handle/2452/833504 . It has been updated and expanded since then, but has not (apparently?) been formally published. When adding values, if not using the 1982 list, please note the source in the changeset comment.
The first two digits define the watershed, so it's nice to separate them from the remaining digits with a space.
There is another official source with SARIS codes available here: https://gis.data.mass.gov/datasets/massgis::major-rivers-and-streams -- it doesn't contain all the ones from 1982 (about 1,600 of the 2,027 in the original), but it also includes about 150 additional ones (presumably added later). One advantage of that one is that it includes full traces of their shape. Note that it doesn't include the watershed prefixes, but they can be inferred from the surrounding codes.
Another partial source for additional SARIS codes is https://www.mass.gov/info-details/massgis-data-networked-hydro-centerlines which seems to have 12 later ones, although all 12 are also in the source above, so this isn't that useful.
https://www.mass.gov/info-details/massgis-data-ma-wildlife-coldwater-fisheries-resources has 390 later SARIS codes, so it should be looked at once the other sources have been handled.
There is some explanation of SARIS (and the similar inventory systems for ponds (PALIS) and coastal waters (CAMIS)) in Massachusetts Year 2016 Integrated List of Waters although there are only a few SARIS code numbers actually mentioned.
Example value
ref:US:MA:SARIS=72 39050 for the Charles River.
