Human readable link to Wikipedia's article about the model/family of the feature.
Pages for model series, model families, model group, submodels, variant, model type etc all can be linked.
Primary point of this tag is that it allows removal of invalid wikipedia=* links without removing what original mapper added, by retagging them into model:wikipedia=*.
Example:
- historic=aircraft
- aircraft:type=helicopter
- model:wikipedia=en:Bell AH-1 Cobra - links https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bell_AH-1_Cobra
- model:wikidata=Q219629 - links https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q219629
Comparison with model:wikidata=* tag
One may also add model:wikidata=* for tag that is equivalent in function. It adds link that is more likely to not be changing but is not human readable as its tag value. There may be special support to display model:wikidata=* tag in more readable form, it requires access to Wikidata database to get data from https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q219629 )
Comparison with wikipedia tag
There is wikipedia=* tag that can be used to provides a link to Wikipedia's article about the specific feature. Note that it is supposed to be used in cases where Wikipedia article is specifically about a given object. For example adding wikipedia=en:Tree is never correct as it is not an article about a specific tree. In the same way adding wikipedia=en:Bell AH-1 Cobra to helicopter is not correct, because it is not an article about a specific produced helicopter.
In cases where someone want to add link to Wikipedia page about model of supermarket using model:wikipedia=en:Bell AH-1 Cobra is acceptable, as it is not incorrect.
In cases where there is a wikipedia article about specific aircraft, truck, locomotive, ship etc it is fine to use it in wikipedia=*.
