Captcha whitelist suggestions
Want to add a site to the list? You'll have to suggest it here and wait for a sysop to do it. But note that the whitelist ONLY controls the captcha mechanism. That's ALL it does, so it's no big deal really, we don't need to build a huge whitelist of every site we like/trust. For most external linking just solve the captcha puzzle! -- Harry Wood 23:20, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
openaerialmap.org and metacarta.com
I would like to see openaerialmap.org as trusted (I expect to link to them more as more images become available there), and also metacarta.com (crschmidt has lots of nice tools there). --Colin Marquardt 09:56, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
Tagging stats sites
The sites osmdoc.com, tagwatch.stoecker.eu and tagstat.hypercube.telascience.org contain tag usage statistics and are linked to a lot, even indirectly as part of standard templates. --Tordanik 07:54, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
- OK. added. -- Harry Wood 08:28, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
Relation-Template
from Template:Relation:
http://betaplace.emaitie.de/, http://osm.virtuelle-loipe.de/ and(?) http://localhost:8111/
Thanks, --t-i 15:21, 26 August 2010 (BST)
- New URLs are http://ra.osmsurround.org/analyze.jsp and http://osm.cdauth.eu/route-manager/. --Candid Dauth 18:35, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
- Template:Relation does not use cdauth.eu anymore. Removed. --Tigerfell (Let's talk) 14:26, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
Template:Changeset
--Candid Dauth 18:58, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
- Now served from https://osmhv.openstreetmap.de/, so I will remove the old link. --Tigerfell (Let's talk) 14:26, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
Erroneous Regexps
Hi! It's possible to link to sites containing the allowed domains just as a subdomain, for example: http://openstreetmap.org.rolex-spam.com. -- IGEL 21:01, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
- I wasn't able to formulate this into one regexp, but if you duplicate each line and add \/ (for links to openstreetmap.org/asdf) to the end of one and $ (for links to openstreetmap.org) to the end of the other line, the rules work as expected. -- IGEL 21:07, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
OSM3S Public transport tool
Hi,
I'd like to submit this url to the captcha whitelist: http://78.46.81.38/
The service is described on OSM Server Side Script, and widely used on public transport wiki pages.
Thanks,
--Don-vip 21:08, 31 March 2011 (BST)
- done. Would be better if you had a domain name obviously. I think it's a bad idea to be filling the wiki with links to your IP address. So I pondered your request for a while, but I guess we'll leave it up to you what you want to do about that. This mechanism only controls the captchas, which is only intended to be an anti-spam feature, not an anti stupid links feature :-) But anyway, I'm not sure if that regexp will work (for an I.P. address). Can you test it as a normal user and let me know? Do also let us know if you get a better domain name, and we'll swap it in a bit quicker. -- Harry Wood 17:33, 4 May 2011 (BST)
- It's not my IP address nor my tool, and I agree that a domain name would be better. But this tool is too useful to not use it on the OSM wiki :) I'll contact the author about this domain name idea. By the way, it works ! Thanks a lot ! :) --Don-vip 21:35, 5 May 2011 (BST)
- I've contacted the author about that. --Don-vip 23:54, 24 May 2011 (BST)
- There's a domain now ! Roland just have registered and activated overpass-api.de for the service :) The IP address can be safely switched to the new domain name. --Don-vip 21:33, 7 June 2011 (BST)
- done. Excellent that's in there. Guess there's a few links around the wiki to swap over now -- Harry Wood 09:59, 9 June 2011 (BST)

New suggestions
Hi again,
I'd like to submit new websites, all using top-level domains this time :)
I'm thinking about these domains:
- itoworld.com: The domain hosting ITO slippy map.
- gouv.fr: The domain for French government websites.
- edf.com, rte-france.com and erdfdistribution.fr: The domains used by Electricité de France, the French national power agency.
I'm linking to many of their resources for the French sub-project of WikiProject Power networks.
Best Regards,
Vincent. --Don-vip 00:17, 25 May 2011 (BST)
- done. Those are added. Remember we're not interested in whitelisting all sites which people ever want to link to (that would be a big list) Just sites you want to link to often. Anyway I've whacked those on there so you can do your french power network editing easier -- Harry Wood 09:49, 25 May 2011 (BST)
- Thank you very much :) I keep the often notion in mind :) --Don-vip 23:24, 25 May 2011 (BST)
Request to add osm.rasher.dk to whitelist
Hi,
For Danish edits we use tools located at http://osm.rasher.dk/ and add links to this site often, especially to mark out locations at Kortverificering/Inspicering where we have found addresses with missing nearby roads that are not visible at our Danish Fugro aerial photos.
In these cases we often link to the map at osm.rasher.dk with different layers added (such as the aerial photo and a layer to highlight addresses with missing nearby ways with a similar name).
Can we add this domain to the whitelist? It is mainly maintained by User:Rasher.
--Findvej 03:17, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- done -- Harry Wood 00:57, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
License sites
opendatacommons.org and creativecommons.org are the sites of our current license and future license, so adding both would be a good idea
- I'd echo this. Best practice for uploading images includes adding licensing information, and the standard templates (such as {{CC-by-sa-3.0}}) link to the appropriate page on creativecommons.org, like this:
|
- On one hand we should be encouraging this, but on the other hand we're requiring a captcha for each one uploaded. We should really be making doing the "right thing" as easy as possible.

More suggestions
With the captchas unfortunately being active again, I'd like to suggest some new additions:
- overpass-turbo.eu (used in Template:ValueDescription)
- osmtools.de (has various popular tools)
--Tordanik 15:44, 28 June 2013 (UTC)
Some more suggestions
- josm.de
- Keepright tracker https://github.com/keepright/
- Mapnik issues https://github.com/gravitystorm/openstreetmap-carto

Czech government cadastre links
Hi, could you please whitelist the Czech Cadastre http://vdp.cuzk.cz/ ? We use it to link bugs found in Cadastre during mapping and the whitelist would be nice here. It is a government agency so it is safe. Thank you. Chrabros (talk) 05:10, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
Please add *//translatewiki.net*
Xxzme (talk) 15:28, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
- Would be useful, yes. Note: a double interwiki link (wikipedia:translatewiki:Test) will not work, as it is "pointing to a "non-local" interwiki page (usually those not run by the Wikimedia Foundation)". --Aseerel4c26 (talk) 18:07, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
- Hmm. We already have translatewiki\.net on the whitelist. Does that not do the job? Example URL you want to link to? -- Harry Wood (talk) 13:35, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
Example URL: this. Note: Due to a MediaWiki bug, it will never work with protocol-relative links, as long as we don't have a new MediaWiki version (with the code from Oct 23 2014). See Talk:WikiProject_Cleanup#Captchas_are_annoying_-_please_switch_off.Huh, it worked... Xxzme, which one did you really try? Note 2: Yes, protocol-relative links are not really needed for translatewiki as it is always https anyway. --Aseerel4c26 (talk) 16:52, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- Okay, but we also need Transifex solved 7 captchas here. github is also missing - we have ID and rails site there. Xxzme (talk) 17:29, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
*meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/*
This is main help site. Xxzme (talk) 17:27, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
- not needed that much, just use a double interwiki link (e.g. wikipedia:meta:Help:Contents) instead of a weblink. --Aseerel4c26 (talk) 18:03, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
