Community consultation
This activity was started by reaching out to Matt Whilden about an import of data. A Wikipage for the proposed project has been made and the plan has been posted to the community forum, the local slack, and local OSM mappers have been reached out to.
Hashtag
We will ask contributors to use "#basinrec" hashtag.
Timeframe
The plan started in February and details are being worked out. Through March 2025 GPX tracks will be used to add new trails and trail alignments. Our data will be compared to Strava Heat maps and new GPX tracks will be created as needed through the field season. This project will be on going as trails are rerouted and added.
Tools and data sources
We will use standard OSM tooling, tracklogs from Garmin GPS, local knowledge, and data sets from ArcGIS (Open Data Commons Open Database License v1.0 (ODbL - 1.0).
Participants
Participants will be Basin Recreation Employees and open to other contributors who will be asked to add their info to this page.

Measuring our success
Steps will be completed as followed: Post import plan to community, update tags to match OSM, import trails, edit, and finish with three new trails added and 10+ trails aligned. We will add our edits to this page as we make changes for our team to review.
Updates:
As of 3/38/2025 we are still in the editing phase.
Tags have been added to the majority of trails in Summit Park, Toll Canyon, East and West of the 224, and Glenwild area. These tags include: operator= Snyderville Basin Special Recreation District; operator:type= public; service= emergency_ access (added to Toll Road as it is a Fire Egress road); and oneway=yes/no or segreated=no/yes where needed.
Trail alignments have been made using Strava heatmap data, our GPX tracks, and local knowledge.
Training/instructions
The "LearnOSM" pages will be used and shared with all teammembers. Our GIS lead at Basin Rec. will create a process and train other employees on this method. This will be shared with other contributors.
Post-event clean-up
Changesets will be checked by our core team of mappers and we will ask community members to review.
Results
Monthly updates will be posted to this page.
