Organised Editing/Activities/HotelPORT
Rationale
HotelPORT is a hospitality technology company that provides content verification services for hotels, restaurants, and spas across third-party websites, including platforms such as OpenStreetMap.
The company works directly with hospitality businesses to ensure that essential property information — such as names, addresses, phone numbers, amenities, images, and geolocation data — is accurate and current across online distribution and mapping platforms.
HotelPORT’s content verification process combines automated technology with human validation. This hybrid approach allows for scalable monitoring while maintaining accuracy and contextual relevance.
The following schematic view outlines the step-by-step process used in the company’s verification workflow:
We operate globally, based on the placement of our clients' properties. Priority regions include the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, Europe and Asia.
Contact
For any inquiries or further coordination regarding this initiative, please contact HotelPORT PS (on osm, edits, contrib, heatmap, chngset com.) Inquiries sent via email are highly preferred
We are often the first to learn about significant changes, such as renaming / brand conversion, operational termination, or updates in contact information, our corrections are based on verified information. In light of this, we kindly request that community members refrain from disputing corrections made by our team, as they are based on direct, authorized input from the property/venue teams. However, our team members are certainly open to comprehensive feedback regarding the changes they initiate.
Community consultation
All edits made by HotelPORT affect only hotels, restaurants, and spas, and every update is initiated or approved by the respective property management or owners. Our contribution is aimed at delivering highly accurate, reliable information. Our team is open to comprehensive feedback regarding the edits they initiated.
Hashtag
All commits related to this activity will be tagged with #propertyview starting from April 2025, to enable transparent tracking of edits through data quality tools such as OSMCha.
Timeframe
This content verification activity is designed to be carried out continuously. Our process is ongoing, ensuring that any verified change from a hotel or on-site venue is promptly updated on OpenStreetMap and other platforms.
Tools and data sources
In relation to the OpenStreetMap platform, our users are most likely to use visual edits. In the vast majority of cases, our edits focus exclusively on content (e.g., property details) without affecting the underlying map geometry. Our team focuses on verifying and updating the following key attributes: Property Name, Address, Phone, Website, Fax, Email, Brand, Amenities, Type of Internet provided, and Total Number of Guest Rooms.
Participants
The list of participants involved in this initiative is currently being compiled and will be updated.

Measuring our success
Our success is measured through an internal system that assesses the accuracy and completeness of the content updates. Tasks include:
- Periodic audits of key property attributes.
- Overpass query checks and data quality tool analyses.
- Continuous monitoring and reporting via a dedicated dashboard.
This performance dashboard - accessible exclusively to our team and clients - quantifies the percentage improvement in content accuracy across properties.
Training/instructions
To ensure consistency and adherence to community standards, all participants in this initiative undergo comprehensive training. This training covers the mapping strategy, correct formatting of property details, and compliance with OpenStreetMap editing guidelines. Our team members are open to comprehensive feedback regarding the changes they initiate.
Post-event clean-up
Given the ongoing nature of this project, regular data validation is a core component of our process. We periodically re-verify content with hotel or restaurant management, use field data and local insights, and employ automated checks to ensure that the information remains current and accurate. This systematic clean-up guarantees that any discrepancies are promptly resolved.
Results
Monthly progress and overall mapping results are shared with our clients through regular reports and continuous dashboard updates. The accuracy of content is consistently monitored and communicated, ensuring that the latest verified information benefits both the hospitality sector and the OpenStreetMap community.
