Proposal talk:Fire service
Wording used
I like it very much. To me, it's different enough from:
- government=administrative
- government=police which could lead to use government=firefigthers. But government=police isn't widely used at this time, so I don't see any reason to copy this for the firefighters
Also we could use government=fire_rescue that also makes sense. I believe that a native British speaker could highlight us about this choice. Which one does "sounds" better?
Anyway, I approve this new tag if we don't find any better. Overflorian (talk) 10:26, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
- government=fire_service is good for the attribute, but the top-level feature could be different. Main motivation being fire academy is often shared with the emergency medical / ambulance / paramedic service/branch, and other rescues or disaster response and civil defense.
- Singapore: Civil Defence Academy
- Russia: Civil Defense Academy of the Ministry of Emergency Situations
- Pakistan: Civil Defence Academy Lahore
- As military_service=* is already used for branches, fire_service=* could follow. This would allow specialized units.
- The uncertainty is I'm not sure how to deal with different levels. While admin_level=* is mentioned here for geographical divisions, there are special cases viz USA and Canada having separate state forest fire service, which may necessitate fire_service=wild + fire_branch=aerial (following military_branch=* ) for aerial firefighting features of the forest fire service.
firefighting=* can be created as the feature. This aligns with police=* being the functionality. Then firefighting=academy specifically (may also show a feature has such training, as many schools don't belong to the fire service) , or emergency=academy in general (to cover any other or mixed emergency and rescue schools) can be used.
As for how the medical part should proceed, I have no idea.

Good tag idea
I especially like adding fire_service=academy, I do however think that the definition could be more fleshed out (e.g. cover the differences between tagging buildings and areas). Unbeatable101 (talk) 02:23, 18 September 2022 (UTC)
