Proposal talk:Lounger
"A place for people to lie down." sounds like a group of loungers. Maybe "An object for people to lie down." would be better? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 17:42, 5 May 2018 (UTC)
@Mateusz Konieczny: Good point. I was basing on amenity=bench proposal description, but "object" would fit better here. Tomasz W (talk) 18:36, 5 May 2018 (UTC)
I think it would also not harm to explain more precisely what is meant here with “permanent”, that is an object fixed to the ground and not just standing there for (even a longer) period of time but still movable. Consider that the two Wikipedia links present articles both with a lot o photos of portable loungers and not everyone is keen to read carefully, some just take a look on the photos...Szydzio (talk) 20:56, 5 May 2018 (UTC)
@Szydzio: When I was writing this proposal, I was thinking about permanent loungers, but on Tagging list there also were voices that portable ones should be allowed too, so I'm changing it. Tomasz W (talk) 05:15, 6 May 2018 (UTC)
Hi, IMO 'a (sun)lounger' should suffice as description as it isn't the purpose of the wiki to define what a lounger is, but what amenity=lounger means. Regarding fixed or portable loungers: according to our Good practice guidelines, it's preferred to not map temporary events and temporary features, which also includes 'objects without a fixed location that are easily or regularly moved'. Therefore I suggest changing the description to 'a fixed (sun)lounger' and to remove the misleading links to Wikipedia. --SelfishSeahorse (talk) 09:11, 6 May 2018 (UTC)
- I see nothing wrong with marking place that permanently has a movable lounger. I see also nothing wrong with marking seasonal lounger as long as seasonal=* is also used. Note also that "(sun)lounger" may be unclear to non-native speakers (and it is not helpful at all to explain meaning of amenity=lounger), and "An object for people to lie down" is more likely to be understandable. Note that for example Tag:amenity=bank is not described as "a bank" but "A financial establishment where customers can, among other services, deposit money and take loans." - I on the other hand concur with the feelings of SelfishSeahorse regarding portable loungers. I would restrain the tag to fixed loungers only, just like in the original idea of Tomasz W. I’m afraid with time we are going to see dozens of nodes of portable loungers moved endless around by some micro-mapping oriented mappers who prefer one node for one object. So if portable should also be mapped at all, I suggest using an area instead of placing a nod in the middle of a group of loungers. Szydzio (talk) 11:01, 7 May 2018 (UTC)
Areas
I think areas should be also allowed for bigger objects like these:

Movable Lounger
If nothing indicates the position of the lounger, the general practice is not to map it. If some anchors exist as for political boards used for elections then permanent=no, see advertising=board.
- We use to map movable benches (amenity=bench), so why shouldn't we map movable loungers as well? It shouldn't depend on whether they are movable but on how frequently they are actually moved. I know loungers that are movable but never moved. Strictly speaking, everything is movable anyways. People have moved whole castles to another continent. --Fkv (talk) 09:03, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
To indicate when the lounger is available, opening_hours=* does the job.

Similar Things
What about hammocks and garden swings? Do we need a subtag lounger=*, and what are its values? --Fkv (talk) 16:42, 1 June 2018 (UTC)
