Proposal

This proposal aims to deprecate the school=entrance

Tagging and history

school=entrance has historically been used to tag where people (probably students) can enter their school.

This tagging around 1800 objects - a number that has been stable since 2014.

Rationale

This feature should be officially marked as deprecated as:

• Entrances are tagged with entrance=*, which is widely understood and supported. This can replace all current values, especially for nodes
• There is no support in any editor to add those
• There is no support in any data user
• Usage is very small (1800 objects) compared to entrance=* which has 3.000.000 objects
• The wiki page on school=* already stated in 2018 that entrance=* is a better alternative
• This tags uses the key school=*, which can be used for a decent tagging scheme, e.g. for subject or school level. (This is for a future proposal)

I find it problematic that deprecation notice and the description mentions entrance=students, which apparently is neither documented nor used anywhere ... so the recommendation seems misguided to me. --Push-f (talk) 21:34, 29 June 2022 (UTC)

• I oppose this proposal. This proposal needs more research from author. This tag is often used for school gates. Even the linked example was not changed to entrance=*. The proposal should therefore give a hint to barrier=gate. The box only mentions entrance=yes and entrance=main. I suggest better description there.
