An osmica is a covered or open-air area with chairs or benches where owner's produced food and wine is served. They are commons in rural areas of Karst plateau (between Italy and Slovenia). During opening days, owners use to set temporary road signs in nearby junctions.

Term origin

The term osmica originates from an 1784 austro-hungarian decree which allowed producers to sell wine for a 8-days period (in slavic languages osem/osiam/osiem means 8). See the wikipedia page Osmica for more information about the history of osmica.
