The tag amenity=workshop is used to map an unspecified type of "workshop" in either a room or building. In many cases here are more specific and well-defined tags which might be considered instead. See craft=* to map many types of crafts and trades which often include a workshop, and shop=* for retail shops and services.
The other main use of this tag has been to map the brand "Repair Café" in French-speaking parts of Europe, and some independent "repair cafe" and "hackerspace" features.
